Beautiful cakes in Kalihi, Honolulu...
My friend's birthday was coming up and I wanted a special cake to celebrate the occasion. I knew her (Chris Y.) before we became active in the Yelp Hawaii community, so I picked Elvin's Bakery because of the high quality and good reputation. The cake was perfect!
Located in the Kapalama Shopping Center on Dillingham Boulevard, I've seen Elvin's because Zippy's, the former Violet's Grill, and Magnolia Ice Cream share the same parking lot.
I walked in, hoping that the cakes weren't sold out. Luckily, there were five choices. I eliminated the Mango cake because Paul reminded me that Chris has a Mango tree in her yard. Somehow, Chocolate and Tiramisu didn't seem to match a Chinese dinner, so it was between Red Velvet and Strawberry Shortcake. The man standing behind the counter suggested the Strawberry Shortcake because it's light. Ok! Easy decision, then!
I asked him if he was Elvin... yes! He was! No wonder he knew that the Tiramisu and Red Velvet were the richest cakes! Ahhh! Nice to meet you!
See you again soon because DeeLite Bakery closed and the Red Ribbon Bakery in Kalihi also closed!
P.S. The Strawberry Shortcake turned out to be a winner... light and not too sweet! Beautiful presentation and yummy fresh strawberries between soft, moist layers of cake and whipped cream! -

I've gotten a couple cakes from here for multiple occasions, and they were all good, but none have wowed me till today. The Red Velvet cake is possibly the best Red Velvet I've ever had! And I've eaten a lot of Red Velvet cakes in my life!
I called this morning, and asked if I could get a Red Velvet for my mom's birthday. I needed it for that afternoon and it was no problem! Though I do recommend calling a day in advance just incase they're busy. Went with my wife to pick it up, and the man and women that helped us were kind and courteous.
The cake was nicely decorated with fruits and chocolate, and there was a cute "Happy birthday Mom" chocolate decoration. I can't express enough how delicious the cake was! The cake was moist and the cream cheese frosting was rich and delicious!
Couldn't be happier with Elvin's Bakery! -

IVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR A GOOD STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE CAKE AND THIS PLACE IS THE PLACE TO GET THEM.
It was my sisters birthday and she wanted a strawberry shortcake cake. I've always got them from Saint Germans Bakery in Times but they've shut down and I've been on the hunt since. Ive been searching through every store listed on yelp and cake across of Elvins Bakery. I decided to give them a shot due to all the reviews they've got.
They're fast and friendly! I placed an order for 1/4 sheet cake on Friday and needed it to be ready by Saturday. Most places would tell me that's too soon etc, but this place said NO PROBLEM. UGHHH I WAS SO HAPPY. When I went to pick up the cake, it was ready and I was even happier. They've got all their cakes on display in their fridge and honestly everything looked so good. Would love to try the red velvet next time. It's a far drive from my place just to get a cake, but I think it's worth it! (better than Zippys cakes!) -

Happy Mid Autumn Festival! We bought the variety box with yolks to celebrate the full moon. The squash is a must-try! Not too sweet, smooth consistency, and light crust. Bummer that they sold out of the taro moon cake. Guess we have to go back!

Why I've never taken the time to write a review about Elvin's I don't know. This is our go to spot for all of our office birthday cakes. Just one cake and we were all hooked! Red velvet is my fave and is to date the best red velvet I've ever had! I can call very last minute and they'll get a cake prepared to pick up within the hour. Every cake we've tried is delicious and beautiful! Everyone is always very friendly. Not a single bad thing to say about this place.
